1. Andrew Golder, Tailor & Burgess in Hamilton (abt.1620 - 1673)


Marriage

He and his wife purchase property in Hamilton

Andrew Golder was a tailor and burgess of Hamilton. On 14 May 1649 he and his wife Christian Allan, purchased four acres of land in Hamilton from Quentin Hamilton of Barncluith and his wife Marion Denholm. This land was located on the north side of the High Street of Hamilton, one acre within the lands of Silvertonhill, another acre called the Cruiket Aiker, and two more acres in the Croftheiche.[National Records of Scotland, Particular Register of Sasines for the Sheriffdom of Lanark, 1648-53, reference RS40/5/52] and – National Records of Scotland GD85/183


He purchases more property in Hamilton.

On 28 November 1656 Andrew Golder, merchant and burgess of Hamilton, purchased one acre of land in Hamilton from Robert Hamilton, Writer to the Signet, brother german of Quentin Hamilton of Barncluith. The land sold was part of Lambies tenement. It was located in that part of the hauch of Hamilton called Crastheiche. [Ibidem, 1699-1709, reference RS42/11/293]


Death

Andrew Golder, elder, tailor and burgess of Hamilton, died before 3 September 1673, the date upon which his eldest son and heir, Andrew Golder, younger, received his precept of clare constat from James Hamilton of Barncluith [National Records of Scotland, Particular Register of Sasines for the Sheriffdom of Lanark, 1671-75, RS42/5/330] and – National Records of Scotland GD85/245

      John Golder is the son of Andrew Golder (elder, tailor and burgess of Hamilton) and Christian Allan

Marriage

John Golder married Marion Hamilton. A marriage record has not been identified for them but they were probably married early on in 1678 because their eldest child James Golder was born on 9 November 1678 Scotland Births and Baptisms


He gives his consent to the sale of his deceased father’s Property

On 29 November 1682 Andrew Golder, eldest son and heir of the deceased Andrew Golder, tailor and burgess of Hamilton, sold five acres of land in Hamilton which he had previously inherited from his deceased father. He sold this land with the consent of his mother, Christian Allan, and the consent of his brother german, John Golder. Andrew Golder, younger, is the eldest son of Andrew Golder, elder, and his wife Christian Allan. He had a younger brother named John Golder – National Records of Scotland GD85/281


Marriage

Andrew Golder (aka Androw Golder) married Bessie Hamilton. The marriage was booked for proclation on 11 August 1688, at Hamilton parish in Lanarkshire, Scotland. The record of their marriage booking reads as follows: "ij August 1688 Androw Golder and Bessie Hamilton both in this paroch". Heir to his deceased Father

On 3 September 1673 Andrew Golder, tailor and Burgess of Hamilton, had a precept of clare constat from John Hamilton of Barncluith which recognised him as the eldest son and nearest heir of the deceased Andrew Golder, tailor and burgess of Hamilton and confirmed his possession of four acres of land in Hamilton.This land was located on the north side of the High Street of Hamilton, one acre within the lands of Silvertonhill, another acre called the Cruiket Aiker, and two more acres in the Croftheiche. Heir to his deceased Father

On 14 October 1682 Andrew Golder had a precept of clare constat from Anna, Duchess of Hamilton, which recognised him as the eldest son and nearest heir of Andrew Golder, burgess of Hamilton. This land was part of Lambies tenement and it was located in that part of the hauch of Hamilton called Crofthigh. Further Mention

Andrew Golder, tailor in Hamilton, is mentioned in a further four sasines from the period 1729-80. These will probably be references to the property previously owned by him. Andrew and Bessie had three children whose names have been identified from the old parochial registers of Hamilton parish. The Hamilton burial register identifies two children who must have died young but which of the three children already noticed these are cannot be determined for their names and gender are not mentioned. The children are:

The names of George Golder’s first wife are not known.


Death

George Golder, maltman in Hamilton, died before 23 November 1693, the date upon which the mortcloth was hired for his burial at Hamilton in Lanarkshire, Scotland. [National Records of Scotland, Hamilton Deaths, 1647-1714, reference OPR.647/4]

It cannot be regarded as certain but it is possible that George is also the father of the following individuals:

Marriage

Anna Golder is the wife of Quentin Peacock, maltman (or messenger) in Hamilton. [Lanark Sasines, 1685-88, RS42/8/4, RS42/8/5 and RS42/8/201]. Their marriage was booked on 8 September 1677, at Hamilton in Lanarkshire, Scotland, and if as seems certain Anna Golder was at least sixteen years of age at the time of her marriage then it might reasonably be suggested that she was probably born before 8 September 1651 – Scottish Marriages

Patrick Golder id the son of George Golder (aka George Gaulder). He was born before 6 October 1661, the date upon which his baptism was registered at Hamilton in Lanarkshire, Scotland – Scottish Births & Baptisms

George Golder married Eupheme Barrie. The marriage was booked on 9 January 1670, at Hamilton in Lanarkshire, Scotland – Scottish Marriages

7. Robert Golder Burgess of Hamilton, (abt.1640 - ????)

The names of Robert Golder’s parents have not been identified but it is tentatively suggested here that he may have been the brother of Andrew Golder, tailor in Hamilton, and George Golder, Maltman in Hamilton, both of whom are his near contemporaries in the Lanarkshire burgh town of Hamilton. He may also be the brother of William Golder in Quarter, who was probably a tenant farmer there

Death

Robert Golder is not mentioned in his deceased father’s testament dative, which was confirmed at Glasgow on 10 June 1675, and it seems quite likely, therefore, that he died before this date. 7.6 John Golder (1675 - ????)


John Golder is the son of Robert Golder and Margaret Wood. His baptismal record has not been identified but he must have been born before 10 June 1675, the date upon which his deceased father’s testament dative was confirmedby the Commissary of Hamilton and Campsie.[National Records of Scotland, Hamilton and Campsie Commissary Records, Testament Dative of Robert Golder, reference CC10/5/8]

Janet Golder is the daughter of Robert Golder and Margaret Wood. No baptismal record has been found but she was born before 10 June 1675, the date upon which her deceased father’s testament dative was confirmed at Glasgow. 7.8 Marion Golder (aka MAREON GOLDER) (1675 - ????)
