William Golder lends 400 merks to Janet Wilson

On 5 July 1726 Janet Wilson, one of the daughters and heirs portioners of the deceased James Wilson, portioner of Meikle Earnock in Hamilton parish, and her husband James Corbett, tailor in Meikle Earnock, borrowed two hundred merks Scots money from William Golder in Quarter there. They gave William Golder a heritable bond over their land in Meikle Earnock as security for the loan and acknowledged that they had previously borrowed another two hundred merks from him. When William Golder in Braconridge took possession of the lands of Grange at the hands of James Golder in Braconridge on 8 December 1763, Quintine Golder in Chappell witnessed the ceremony of infeftment. [National Archives of Scotland, H. M. General Register House, Edinburgh, Particular Register of Sasines for the Sheriffdom of Lanark, reference RS42/17 folios 250r-251r]. The sasine record does not say so but it seems quite likely, probable even, that all three Golders are brothers. The probability of this is suggested by the fact that William Golder and his wife Marion Fleming had three sons of the same name whose baptisms were registered at Hamilton parish in Lanarkshire during the period 1714-21.

Quintine Golder is probably that son of William Golder and Marion Fleming who was born on 7 May 1719 and baptised on 27 July 1719. His baptism was registered at Hamilton parish in Lanarkshire, Scotland – Scotland Births & Baptisms
His baptismal record reads as follows: "Hamilton July in 1719. William Golder and Marion fflemin sp: a son born 7th of May and bap 27 n: Quintin". [National Records of Scotland, Hamilton Births, 1687-1755, reference OPR.647/2]
